Simply Retro challenge – May quilt choice

posted in: Quilting, sewing | 5

Continuing on with our Simply Retro challenge, the quilt pattern chosen for the month of May, by the wonderful Angie, is Vintage. This is a variation on the currently very trendy Granny Square type block, which I have been looking forward to making ever since I bought the book!

Of course, because it’s me, I have to do things a little differently! So my quilt top isn’t going to look much like the sample one by Camille, or even like Sharon’s quilt, which she has started working on. There is a lot of other inspiration out there to look at, as a quilt-along has sprung up on Instagram under the tag #vintagealong if you would like to see more.

Starting with a base of beautiful Organic cottons from a Mod Green Pod range, I added in some other toning prints, including the classic Denyse Schmidt print on the far right. The base colour is actually a stunning shot cotton in Fuschia – with turquoise running through it the other way. It’s much more pink than it photographs here. I think we will definitely need our sunglasses for this one – the pattern will really give you a colour blast. Hold on to your seatbelts ladies and gentlemen because this could go very wrong, or very right! But that’s the fun part about this challenge, making choices that we might not make otherwise and playing with colour, pattern and shape. So, on with the cutting!Happy Crafting - Cassie.
