A fabric shopping tour of Adelaide

Of course, what is a week away from real life, spending the week quilting and talking quilts, if you don’t SHOP quilts too? We bought fabric at so many places over the last week, I have to share them with you.

First stop was Tricia’s Discount Fabrics, just off South Road, opposite Castle Plaza. It’s an absolute treasure trove there with almost everything you could ever want. Sometimes though, the trick is finding it.

First up was binding for my two latest finished quilts…..

The first one was a fluke match for the plus quilt, made with a much older Moda range called Flora – the text from Daysail by Bonnie and Camille was the perfect green! The next two pictures show the binding for the easy Kate and Birdie quilt I made using a pattern from Beyond Neutral, the acorn print is from one of the two ranges I used in this quilt, so it was easy to match up. It goes beautifully with the vintage sheet backing also.

Whilst wandering through the rows and rows of fabrics, I came across some vintage Kate Spain – two prints from Honey Honey and one from Cuzco, which made their way home with me. Then Jess was quick enough to spot a layer cake and jelly roll of Kate’s new line, Canyon, which has been selling out EVERYWHERE! Those tiny tone on tone bird prints are just incredible, so we grabbed them up at a bargain price. My final purchase was a couple of metres of the perfect solid to match yet another Kate Spain layer cake, Daydreams. I have my pattern picked out for that one, so it’s all systems go!

Next stop was the Adelaide Sewing Centre, which was our host for the two days of quilting fun… picked up some cute little prints and 4 metres of the most fabulous number print for a future quilt backing.

Double Gauze owl print from The Drapery

After that, we stopped in at The Drapery on Glen Osmond Road. Despite coming down the freeway as often as I do, I have never managed to stop in there before. Wow. I will definitely be back. Lots of gorgeous designer linens, knits and cottons, plus patterns, books, trims…. the list goes on! I succumbed to this adorable aqua double guaze for a scarf for summer. So light and airy, with the cutest little owl print! Add in some pom-pom trim from Quiltaholics in Littlehampton and I have a fabulous new scarf for spring!

But wait, there’s more. The final stop on our shopping tour of Adelaide was the fabulous Hettie’s Patch down on Port Road. I went a little mad in there, but I have a really good excuse – they had a big selection of Kate Spain’s Honey Honey that I have been busy trying to collect! Plus some of the Alison Glass Ex Libris panel that I missed out on buying when it was first released, the awesome matching geometric print,  two 30’s style fat quarters and an irresistible owl print.

But oh, the Honey Honey……. the print at the top right of the pile is 4m of backing from an Instagram destash just ready for a new quilt project! Two of these fabrics came from Tricia’s, two from my last trip to Victoria, and all the other prints from came from Hettie’s. I feel like I hit the jackpot.

I think that this Honey Honey quilt needs a flower overload – so, hit me with your favourite flower design quilts!
