Another finished and photographed quilt to share! This was the first ever quilt that I put on Winnie – it had been hiding in the pile of unquilted tops since June last year, which seemed long enough for it to marinate completely!
Perfect lap quilt size, the pattern is Swell from Simply Retro by Camille Roskelley. I love all the assorted blue, aqua and green tones that I used for it, hence the Ocean Swell title. It’s a fabulous, really simple pattern and I think it would be perfect for using up scraps as you really don’t need a lot of each fabric to make a block. I can definitely see me making this one again.
It’s really hard to see, as I used a light grey thread, but I quilted it loosely all over in a simple daisy E2E pattern, nice and loose to make a soft drapey quilt. This quilt is going into the car for me when we are out and about! I didn’t notice too many issues with using my first pieced backing on the frame – I took the time to make sure it was laying flat and straight as I was rolling it on, however it is practically impossible to “centre” it onto a top, so I didn’t stress myself about that.
So happy to have this out of the WIP box and into my hands. It had a wash in this lovely spring weather and had come up beautiful and cuddly, just ready for some adventures!
Do you prefer your finished quilts snuggly and soft or more densely quilted? I’d love to hear your opinions and what works for you!

Congratulations on getting a WIP finished – such a good feeling. 🙂 I like quilts for the bed or my lap to be soft, not densely quilted. With wall hangings though, I love to play with the quilting and don’t mind dense at all.
