I have been busy quilting away for some wonderful customers. It’s so hard not to share all their amazing creations with you because I really have been drooling over some of these quilts. Jessica’s Gypsy Wife was no exception to this rule.
Just look at this incredible riot of colour. The variety, the clever placement and fussy cutting, the huge collection of text prints.
There’s not a plain piece of fabric anywhere on this quilt, but it manages not to look crazy busy.
Pardon the untrimmed edges – you HAVE to go over to Jess’s instagram and see her finished and bound magnificence, she did an amazing job of it!
Because a custom quilting job wasn’t an option for us at this time, Jess opted for a subtle but classic design of baptist fans quilted in So Fine 401, which is my new absolute go-to thread. It magically disappears into pretty well any colour except very dark ones, taking on the tones around it and looking anything but white. The fans gave the quilt a soft texture and movement to those vertical and square lines without overpowering the incredible job of fabric placement.
You can get a better idea of the texture here on the back, where the classic Ikea Nummer print really sets off all those arcs.
