April quilting book review – Scraps Inc. Vol 2

After a bit of break, I’m keen to bring back my regular feature of Book Reviews!! To see all the books that I’ve reviewed for you in the past, check them out HERE. Today’s review is of a sequel – Scraps Inc. Vol 2 compiled by Susanne Woods and published by Lucky Spool Media. This is a follow up to the very popular Scraps Inc. Vol 1 that I shared with you last year.

The cover is a pastel version of the first book, but nothing particularly surprising there.

Beautifully photographed as always with the Lucky Spool Media products – the table of contents is supplemented with a snapshot of block design from each quilt. This is such a useful feature as often the name is not enough to identify which pattern is which when you are thumbing through your books. Such a great idea that more books are following up with.

Each quilt in the book is contributed by a well-known quilter – including John Adams (Quilt Dad) who is one of my favourite designers. Janice Zeller Ryan is better know by her blog/screen name as Better off thread, and Kati Spencer who blogs at From the blue Chair.

Features that they kept from the first book include the “Quilter to Quilter” notes through the patterns. The information there is not vital to the quilt, but it may provide a design hint or a shortcut.

Another feature is the “Inspired Scraps” box that provides scrap ideas – either storage, sorting, or use. Not only are they written by each contributor but often they reference another designer for further inspiration!

Being a truly modern girl, as well as scrap addicted, I loved this design by Sherri McConnell from A Quilting Life. It had a genuine scrappy feel without turning the quilt into a scrap vomit mess. It’s a hard line to walk, and Sherri did it well.

Honestly, I’m a bit on the fence about this book. If I won a free copy, I wouldn’t be upset. But I am not rushing out to buy it either. There just aren’t enough patterns in it that I can see myself making to justify buying the book. If you want one, you can get it through Amazon HERE – Scraps, Inc. Vol. 2: 15 Block-Based Designs for the Modern Quilter
Have you got it? Made anything from it? I’d love to hear your opinions!

I’m exactly where you are on this one. I have purchased the first version, although I haven’t made anything from it yet. This one, maybe I’ll pick it up super cheap somewhere, or borrow it from my library (if I can).
