50 Here I come!

Ok, no, I’m not turning 50. In a bid to improve our general health and fitness, *skip* and I have been running. Well, he runs, I walk and sometimes jog if I’m feeling particularly energetic. I usually only manage about 2 or 2.5 km’s in an outing because I don’t have lots of time free, but it’s still better than nothing. Anyway, after he got my new shoes and an Nike+ sensor, I have been able to keep track quite accurately of how far, how fast, and how many calories! So, since February, I have nearly managed 50km’s. I walked to and from work today, which took me over 40, and I feel the urge to spend my day off tomorrow out running, so I’m sure I’m inching closer.

The Nike+ website is very inspirational. You can map your routes, track your runs, and set yourself little mini-goals and challenges. I have already achieved two – Run 8 times in 4 weeks, which was hard to commit myself to 2 a week, and then Run 10Km’s in 4 weeks, which I got in with about a week and half to spare. I think I need to set more challenging goals. I’m working on burn 1000 calories in 4 weeks. I set this goal 3 days ago and have since then burnt nearly 500 calories, so again, I think I could have been a teeny bit more ambitious! I am also taking part in a long term challenge set up by *skip* but with other people from around the world competing in…. to run 20km a month for 5 months. I started a bit late and have to catch up a bit, but out of 20 or so people, I was 10th for a while. Have slipped back to 11th, but I am determined to get back up there. 9th is in my grasp!! There’s nothing like some healthy competition to get you inspired!

This weekend passed as usual… in a flurry of work at home, commitments out, and a lovely picnic lunch with some friends on Sunday. After the AWFUL weather we had this week, I was a bit worried about the weekend, but the last 2 days have been just glorious.

So if you’re wondering where I am when I’m not scrapping much, it would be out pounding the pavement. Although all that fresh air and exercise really does inspire the brain as well. Nothing like a bit of a breeze blowing through to shake all the cobwebs loose!

I also have to give a huge Shout-Out to *skip* as he just reached 100km’s tonight. What a marvelous achievement. I’m so very proud of you!!Happy Crafting - Cassie.
