Some time ago, I posted this beautiful pink based star layout on Instagram…
It was made up using the excess half-square triangles from my March Simply Retro Challenge quilt top…. which uses a mix of background colours and the beautiful Mo Bedell’s Full Moon Lagoon fabric line.
I am happy to say that I finally sewed it all together, and using a straightline pattern to highlight the dynamic arrow arrangement and a mix of variegated and white thread, quilted it up to make a cushion top.
The finished product is a simple 16″ square, backed with a home decor weight cotton and a simple vintage button closure. I love this type of closure for a cushion. It eliminates the bulging or gaping that can occur with envelope backs, and as I have thousands of buttons, it’s easy to find a couple that match. Using the automatic buttonholer on my Janome, and sewing the button on with the machine, I can usually have this part finished in less than 10 minutes.
I have already had a couple of requests for a pattern using this design, so I need to learn how to write that up next. I think that it would look really spectacular in a larger format. Keep your eyes out for that in the future!
