Saturday Stash – June 21

Today for Saturday Stash I wanted to share with you this gorgeous new book which arrived in the mail this week….

Beyond Neutral by John Q. Adams of Quiltdad fame.

This book was only just released at the recent Quilt Market and I was intrigued by the title…. on browsing through some images I was hooked and I had to have it. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m not a big white quilt person. It has it’s place in a design, but there are so many other colour possibilites out there now. John explores this concept with beautiful bold quilts and a nature inspired theme.

I love that for each pattern in the book, he shares some of his thoughts and some ideas for the quilt that he is presenting. It’s natural and relaxed, and makes you feel part of the process, rather than just reading a recipe.

All of the quilts are named after National Parks across America, and although stunning, the patterns are actually simple and I’m looking forward to making many of them!

Lots of the patterns are just perfect for showing off big bold beautiful fabrics – I can see this one with Joel Dewberry or Kate Spain for a start. Don’t even get me started on that beautiful mint background. Yum!! Not to mention all of Angela Walters amazing quilting on them.

No, they aren’t traditional country quilts. These are unashamedly modern, rich and vibrant but always easier than you might think. This book is going to be my go-to reference for a long time to come!  So, my considered recommedation is that if you love this style, you have to get this book. I’m so glad that I did and I wish John all the best with it!!

 Happy Crafting - Cassie.
