Plus quilt in progress

I am rather excited to have a quilt project to share with you today. After madly sewing, knitting and crafting 5 bee blocks and various gifts to go with them, I was all bee’d out. Seriously. I looked at DH and said, rather plaintively, “I just want to sew something for me!”. Wonderful husband that he is, he replied, “Go. Do it. Enjoy.”

A couple of weeks ago I put a call out on Instagram looking for votes on turning my 15 fat quarters of Moda Flora by Lauren and Jessi Jung into a quilt for a special little girl. The votes were overwhelmingly skewed towards either a plus quilt or a white star quilt. I decided to go for the plus for this one, as it will match with her patchwork cushion already gifted years ago. The star idea has been earmarked for a very special bundle.

Next thing I knew, Monday afternoon and evening were a flurry of quilt math, and cutting cutting cutting….

Quickly followed on Tuesday by laying out…. I had to use the lounge room floor again, because, well, puppies! It’s the largest safe floor in the house.

Just WOW. I’m in love with it already. No idea how I’m going to give it away at this point!

Bottom four rows all sewn together at this point. I love the size and design I came up with – the rows are super fast to sew together and have just enough nesting seams to keep it all square, but not so many that you go crazy trying to match them all up! School holidays willing, the rest of it will be sewn up by the end of the week, and then it’s on to quilting!

I will share a tutorial for my cutting layout a little later down the track, and I can’t wait to unveil the finished quilt.

Linking up this week with Lee at Freshly Pieced….. Wip Wednesday
