Flowers for Eleni

How many times do you hear of someone’s tragedy, or pain, and wish you could do something? Recently a fabulous member of the quilting community, Rachel Hauser, experienced such tragedy during the birth of their precious baby daughter Eleni. Of course, the community is rallying around, raising funds and supporting them during this difficult time. However, an Australian quilter and blogger, Jodi Godfrey, decided that she needed to do more.

She wanted to send them flowers. She wanted to cover that whole family in flowers! So she started stitching, and put a call out on instagram and her blog for anyone who was able, to join in.

Jodi is being showered in hexagon flowers as we speak as well as donations of thread, fabric, and batting. She has a volunteer long arm quilter ready to go as soon as the quilt top is finished. It’s been so wonderful to see the outpouring of support over the quilting Instagram Community.

I posted these three flowers off to Jodi last week. I thought it was fitting that the background I used for one had all those important words that a quilter holds dear…. and to show how much Rachel has meant to this community.

If you would like to help out, it’s not too late. Jodi has written a basic 1″ hexagon flower tutorial HERE. If you can stitch the flowers, but not add the background, that is fine too. She asks that if you could, please send them by the 20th of March, which is this Friday.

Happy Crafting - Cassie.
