Introducing Quilt Color Workshop: Creative Color Combinations for Quilters by the Fat Quarterly team.

This book is so much more than just quilting patterns. It’s an in-depth look at colour, schemes, and how to make it work for your quilt.

The various schemes across the colour wheel are illustrated in depth, so that any idea you have, you can get help to make it work.

The book is broken up into colour sections, and each one has a sample block, made up in different ways to show how changing the mix of colours changes the appearance of the block. This is more than a colour recipe book, it’s the master recipe. They show you the basics, teach you how to make it work, and then your own creativity can do the rest!

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Fat Quarterly publication if it didn’t have great patterns too – but these all show you the colour range that they use – eg, the ones above are Analogous and Triadic. So, if blue wasn’t your thing, you could just swap the colour out for a different analogous pairing, and off you go.

This super cute paper pieced sewing machine cover is calling my name.

Do you feel confident using a colour wheel? Do you know what complementary, analogous and so forth mean? If you don’t this book is definitely for you. It will help you hone your colour sense and stop having quilters regret. I hate looking at a finished project, and one colour just doesn’t fit in the overall scheme. This book is the cure!

What’s your favourite colour combination, and WHY?

Colour theory is something that comes instinctively to some people, but it can be a challenge to many. Thanks for dropping by Raquel 🙂

I think I’m one of those people who are challenged by colour. I’m still learning…
