A litter of Tula puppies!

Tula Pink Moonshine collection

So, it’s about the worst kept secret that I love Tula Pink fabric. I love the vibrant colours, the detailed patterns, and the huge variety that she adds to her lines. As I mentioned in my inspiration post last week, the Sew Fresh Quilts – Dog gone cute QAL was calling my name. When I came up with the fantastic idea of using up some of my Moonshine from Tula Pink, it became inevitable!

So, with a metre or so of the perfect shade of warm grey/beige background fabric to get me started, some white, black and a beautiful little pink sketch scrap, I started to cut out the first two blocks, provided HERE. I decided to make the large size blocks, due to the bold scale of the fabric prints.

Of course I chose two directional prints to get me started, just for an added challenge. However, Lorna’s pattern diagram made it really easy for me to identify which blocks to cut with the pattern running horizontally and which to cut vertically, so I didn’t get lost. I do suggest printing out a copy of at least the cutting list though. It made it so easy to take notes, and tick off the parts as I was going. I found that several sizes and pieces were repeated between puppy one and two, so I cut them both simultaneously which saved me a mountain of time.

Once I understood the construction, I was able to chain piece most of puppy two, which meant he absolutely flew together. Press your seams open for more accuracy in the final block, and pin as you are going as well, and your finished product will be fabulous.

Lorna has already released blocks three and four, and I can’t wait to get them up on my design wall too. These guys are just so adorable, I don’t want to stop making them!

What patchwork fabric or project can’t you get enough of at the moment? Are you joining any sew-alongs?
