Chic stars on the quilt frame

Last week I finished edge to edge quilting on Jess‘ quilt, which is based on the “Chic Stars” pattern using the Quick Curve Ruler.

This quilt is super adorable, just perfect for a brand new baby! Jess used a fabulous variety of prints, from Tula Pink to Pam Kitty Morning, and they all worked so well together with the green polkadot background.

Jess chose a beautiful coral pink Shannon Cuddle Minky for the backing, so we layered a piece of white fabric in place of batting, just to help reduce the strength of the pink shadowing through the white on the quilt top.

Minky looks just so incredible when it’s all quilted up, like an engraving. If this quilt back is looking familiar, it’s because I used the same pantograph and the same minky backing for my own Tula Pink baby quilt project. It’s just the perfect pattern for a baby quilt, dense, with hearts and flowers but not so much quilting that it won’t be very soft and snuggly for tucking in a cot or pram.

I couldn’t resist posing the quilt with my husband’s cushion – a vintage map of Queensland printed by My Bearded Pigeon on Etsy. Queensland was exactly where this quilt headed off to last week!

We used a soft white Rasant 50wt thread for the top of the quilt – it gives fabulous texture to the design without overpowering the sweet prints which are the focus of the quilt top.

It looks great! I guess I should finish sewing on the label and take some pics of my own. 😉
