Finish-a-long 2016, Second Quarter

posted in: 2016 Finishes, Quilting, sewing | 2

Here I am back again for the second quarter of the 2016 Finish-a-long.  Due to many other commitments keeping me busy, I didn’t get as much finished of last quarter as I hoped, actually I only got 1 finish on the board. I feel a little embarrassed about that. However, not to let that get me nervous, I have a big list for you today!

Playground Quilt - Cassandra Madge

Ok, so I am stacking the deck with this quilt, as it is actually in the process of being quilted at the moment. But I still have to finish that, trim, bind and label it! I know a young man who is waiting for his special quilt for his big bed, so I had better get a wriggle on!

Now in no particular order come the following…..

Vintage quilt May Challenge

Simply retro Vintage Quilt – top 95% finished 2 years ago next month. I made a backing for it last month but quilting it is still yet to happen. This is next on my personal quilting pile!

Trellis Crossroads Modern Bee blocks - Cassandra Madge

Here is an older picture of my Trellis Crossroads Modern Bee quilt which I finished assembling late last year. Time to find some backing and quilt it so I can enjoy it!

Summer Rain hexagon quilt - Cassandra Madge

Again, an older shot of my now “finished” hexagon quilt top, Summer Rain. I had to order border fabric for it from the US, and I am still tossing up between one or two borders, but this has a June deadline so I need to get it done, and soon!

Here is a portion of stars from my Potent Star quilt, which, again, is 90% put together and then I simply need to find a backing which will complement this gorgeous Anna Maria Horner fabric. I have a very special plan for the quilting on this beauty, which I think will be my reward for having gotten some of the other jobs ticked off!

Aviary Quatro Quilt - Cassandra Madge

My Quatro quilt using the gorgeous Aviary fabrics has been stalled on the design wall for a few weeks. I realised that I wanted to make it much bigger than my current plan, and so I am awaiting a shipment of extra fabric from the US (Aviary 2 is out of print and very hard to get hold of in Australia). When it arrives, I can hopefully get this top finished, and then add it to the always growing quilting pile!

Moonshine Sew Fresh Quilts Dog Gone Cute Puppy

Last but not least is my litter of Tula puppies…. they have been patiently waiting for me to stop fiddling with all these other projects and just finish making them. The fabric glares at me, inducing waves of guilt, every time I excavate down that far on my cutting table. I’m a bit ashamed of this one, it’s not a big quilt and I shouldn’t have taken this long to finish it off.

Ok, now THIS is the last one…. this beautiful colour wheel is from a pattern by Crystal of Raspberry Spool, and I will be posting more about it, and her fabulous book, Modern Colour Workshop really soon, pinky promise. But I need to finish quilting and binding this beauty before I share any more about her with you.

Ok, this isn’t even all of my quilt tops, fabric pulls (I bought background for ANOTHER new quilt on Saturday), or ufo’s. Do you think I need an intervention yet?
Help me stay accountable dear readers, and let’s make this the quarter I knock all these goals out of the park!

You have so many gorgeous quilts in the queue! You definitely need to finish them! I’ll be here to support you as I work through my own ridiculous list!

I didn’t get as much done the first quarter as I had hoped, either… Then the realization that I ended up with as many new WIP, as I had finished on my list… gave me a reality check along with renewed determination to stick to finishing some of these projects up before I allow anything new! I already have two down & a third that I’ve almost finished with the quilting. It feels amazing!! I find that breaking it down into mini goals for week, sometimes even the day, is really helping. Also, breaking down the steps and being able to cross them off a visual list is motivating.(Why is that?)

Can’t wait to celebrate your first finish for this quarter with you!
