Sigh…… P&P report!

posted in: Uncategorized | 3

Well, tonight I succumbed to temptation and went to see the latest version of Pride and Prejudice. Alone! I used to hate the idea of going to the cinema alone, but have been doing it quite often lately. It means that I actually get to GO instead of missing out because we can’t agree what to watch and when to watch it.

So….. about the movie.

I am a huge P&P fan. I HAVE read the full novel (also Emma, Sense and Sensibility etc). I already have my own copies both of the BBC 5 hour version, and the Bollywood version (love that film!!).

I was concerned about this one. I didn’t see how they could A) condense it into 2 hours and B) Keira Knightley didn’t seem quite right for me…

Well, I am happy to report that I was wrong. Comparisons are out of the question, this version can stand on it’s own merits. She is A Lizzie. Not a poor imitation, or anything of the like. She is her own version, her own character. Funny to say, I actually think I like her better than the BBC Lizzie, who’s name temporarily escapes me.

They did weight the plot differently, some sideplots were much lighter and less screen time. This however, didn’t detract for me. Some of the lesser characters were omitted, again with no noticeable damage. And many scenes were abridged or cut out entirely, without any appreciable impact on the plot.

Ok, I’ll be honest. I loved it. I really really related to the characters as they were portrayed, and drove home in a total dream.

And if *skip* loves me as much as he claims, he’ll have it bought within a week of it’s release to DVD πŸ˜‰

A totally enchanting love story. I hope Jane would have approved, I know I did.

Ciao!Happy Crafting - Cassie.

Oh Cass, I’m glad you’ve reviewed it for me … I love the BBC version too (have the dvd set sitting next to me as I type this) and I really didn’t want to see the new P&P, just in case it was really dreadful and spoiled the BBC version for me. So perhaps now I will go see it, lol! πŸ™‚

I am so anxious for this to come out on DVD now that you’ve reviewed it! I am a big P&P lover too. AND, my dh has a big crush on Keira Knightley. This just might be the movie that we both like. πŸ˜‰

I agree with you fully…it is wonderful. I was feeling the same way about it before I went but I fell in love with it. Didn’t she make a wonderful Lizzie. By the way I love the Bollywood version as well.
