Here’s a reveal of the second part of my little teaser now that the lovely gift has been received. I picked up a charm pack of the new line, Grant Park, from Moda. No real plans to use it, it was just a good price and I thought I’d give it a go. With only the one pack, I had to make a charm square friendly quilt and tried out this free pattern, Charming Lucy. The only modification I made was to extend the outside sashing/borders to make them wider. I really just eyeballed the measurement, and I’m glad I did because they looked a bit stingy on the original quilt. It also helped to increase the overall size.
I backed it with a simple floral/check pattern picked up on clearance at spotlight. Finished quilt measured about 1m square, or about 40″, so perfect lap or baby size. I used bamboo batting in it, spray basted, and it was a dream to stipple free-motion quilt on my Janome. Bound up quickly with the same Riley Blake stripe I used on DS2’s Rainbow Rails quilt, which just set off all the blue to perfection. A quick wash and line dry, and it was all fresh and crinkly. I don’t normally let Coco test out all my quilts, but as this one was a gift for her part-time babysitter, I knew it wouldn’t be a problem. She definitely approved!
Wrapped up and gifted to our friend who is battling her own chronic health problems. Hoping that it will be light and cozy for a lap quilt or a car quilt when she is out and about, she was happy to unwrap it yesterday! If you like this design, I am open to commissions to make you one, or something similar.

Very attractive. Nice balancing of lights and darks and reds.

How shiny is your table, it’s like a mirror! I love the striped binding, so terrific.
