It’s already half way through June and I can’t believe that I haven’t posted about our Simply Retro challenge for the month. If you need a recap on the challenge, go check out this post on Sharon’s site…
We have a new player for our little challenge this month, @megfishc from Instagram. She has chosen a lovely scrappy quilt for this month, Swell. I have spent the first part of this month working hard behind the scenes on my sewing studio, with a new furniture arrangement and some secret present sewing, and now I’ve got a clear deck to work on this quilt.
The plan was to go through all the fabrics that I’ve been accumulating from my last couple of years of quilting and cut some 2 1/2″ strips to make a lovely scrappy quilt. Of course, I couldn’t resist a little shopping when there was a 40% off sale at Spotlight. I grabbed some older (2009) Mo Bedell prints, from the line Party Dress (we’ve already talked about how much I love her!!). Plus that amazing graphic triangle print which I had been eyeing off for a while, but couldn’t afford at $19p/m full price!
It turns out that some of my scraps from my previous quilts look perfect mixed in with these fabrics! That, plus some other yumminess sprinkled through, will make for a lovely variety in this quilt. I’m making it much smaller than the book however, as the pile of tops waiting to be quilted is growing and growing!
As June is getting away from me, hopefully my white background fabric will arrive early this week and I can get on with the serious business of piecing! I will be back with a progress report, I hope!!
