We finally have an exciting update on my quilting/sewing studio space renovation. The builder has started work, preparing and framing out the floor ready for the sheets of flooring to go down.
It may not look like much but after a few weeks of waiting, this looks like heaven to me.
This is the longarm room, which will be Winnie the Handi Quilter Avante’s home. The window you can see to the left is coming out hopefully this week, and a beautiful big sliding door is going in it’s place.
Looking from the end of the longarm room, into my new sewing room. The doors have had to come out for now to raise the floor level. The first doorway on the left is being built overΒ to increase the usable space around Winnie, and a new doorway will go between the two rooms through the dividing wall, straight ahead. I can’t wait to start organising my furniture, hanging up my shelves and racks and all my Mini Quilts!
You can see here again, the first window will be taken out, it’s damaged and warped and an ideal spot for the sliding door. Which will let in so much beautiful light for quilting by. I will still have a cute little window in the sewing room so I can see the weather. I love watching clouds blow over.
So tell me, what’s one feature of your sewing space (apart from a machine obviously) that you just can’t live without? What do I need to make sure I include?

This is such an exciting endeavour! I’ll be starting to build my quilting/craft studio in 2 months and I’m really keen to see how yours comes together. I particularly love the idea of a big sliding door to let in the light and fresh air. Keep the photos and updates coming, and good luck π
Cassandra
Nykie, thankyou so much for your comment! As you can understand, I am so super excited to be so close – there will be another update next week as he’s got a big stage finished π

One of my favorite things in my sewing room is my large pressing station. It’s 4 x 6 feet and is fabulous for pressing rows or quilt backs.
Cassandra
Cindi, that’s definitely on my list of must have’s! My pressing board is tiny and drives me mad. I salvaged a huge sheet of plywood when we dismantled the old rooms and as soon as we start moving in, it will be cut to size and covered, ready for action. Your size sounds just dreamy!

Exciting stuff Cass!!!! My favourite sewing room fixture was Gemma. She always sat on her beanbag in front of the window when i was sewing. It feels so empty in there now without her.
Cassandra
Afraid I’ll just have to settle for two puppies in mine instead. I’m sure Gemma would want you to keep sewing and creating because she knew it gave you so much joy.

Music! Make sure you have a spot for something that can fill your space with awesome tunes. π Looks great – very envious! π
Cassandra
Oh yeah – high on the list is the tunes!! There’s plans for ceiling speakers even, how exciting is that! DH might not be handy with a saw, but he’s great when it comes to data cabling and all the bells and whistles π When are you going to jetset over to Adelaide and come play with me?
Leanne
so exciting – make sure you have room for a big design wall !!
Cassandra
Thanks Leanne, yes a huge design wall was high on the list! It’s so much better than a design bed or floor π
